Aloy learns of a new threat coming from the Burning Shores, and must travel to the ruins of Los Angeles to stop it. This is the story of the Burning Shores DLC for Horizon Forbidden West, edited into a movie.
If you haven’t seen my work before, I try to take the story of a game and edit it in a movie style that anybody should be able to understand and enjoy, even if they’ve never played the game. Although if you have played the game, I find that these edits allow you to experience the story in a new way, with the more condensed run time allowing the story to stay fresh in your mind. I always find I appreciate the stories of these games more after watching my movie versions.
This isn’t just some cutscene compilation, as you may find in many places, but this includes the entirety of the story. Much of the story is told during the gameplay moments, not just cutscenes, so I make sure to include what gameplay is necessary to follow the story and maintain a good sense of pacing, making sure not to cut anything that would cause plot holes.
I also focus on removing as many “gameplay indicators” as I can. The stuff that appears on screen that you would typically not see in a movie, but are present in every game. Thankfully, this game had extensive options to remove as much of the HUD as possible, so there was very little work I needed to do here, but I still occasionally made use of VFX to remove HUD elements, or otherwise did some zooming and cropping here and there.
